  • The first Federal law aimed at protecting Children was the “Child Abuse Prevention & Treatment Act” established in 1974. Prior to this law the legal rights for children that were abused was prosecuted under laws pertaining to the “abuse of animals”

  • Over 1500 children die each year in the U.S. from child abuse or neglect.

  • Georgia implemented “A Vision for Child and Family Well-Being” in 2020 as a plan to address our state’s high rate of child abuse & neglect.

Olympic Fun facts:

  • The ancient Olympic games in Greece date back to 776 BC.

  • The earliest events included “stadion” (sprints), wrestling, boxing, bull leaping, and discus throwing.

  • Only Freeborn Greek men were allowed to participate in the Olympiad. Female spectators were banned from the precinct where the Olympiad took place.

  • The uniform for the earliest Olympic athletes was their “birthday suit”.

  • As of August 4th at this year’s Olympics in Paris, the USA has won a total of 71 medals. The next closest country’s total is China (they have won 45 medals).
